Surprise Lake Camp believes it
is "The Best In Jewish Camping." It has served Jewish children with
distinction for over a hundred years. Its Executive Director is a twenty year
veteran and a national leader in the field of Jewish camping. Its staff is anchored by an adult
supervisory team with hundreds of years of cumulative experience.
Its site is known for its
breathtaking natural beauty, with 460 pristine acres that include
forests, magnificent countryside, a half-mile long private lake,
and an extensive trail network, all only sixty miles from
Manhattan. Its outstanding facilities feature the incomparable Eddie Cantor
Theater and 10,000 square foot Belle Abramson gymnasium. Its program is rich and varied, with lots of
traditional favorites as well as cutting edge innovations, and an
emphasis on creativity and spirit. Campers develop the
self-confidence, independence, and respect for one another so
essential to character building while having the time of their
lives. SLC's Alumni
Association is unmatched in the camping world, adding lifetime
value to the camping experience. While Surprise Lake appeals to families in
the private camp market, it also
has a proud tradition of providing scholarships to those who
cannot afford the full fee.
The food is strictly Kosher. There
are two four-week sessions for 7-15 year olds, two-week
options for 7-12 year olds, and a Work Program for 15 year old
young adults who feel they are too old to be campers, but
aren't yet old enough to be staff.
